SUMMARY:--- POSTPONED --- Wind Quintets: the Origin Story
DESCRIPTION:EMSI is sorry to cancel February’s concert\, but would like to reschedule the Canova Winds performance in a future season. \nPlease contact EMSI if you haven’t already done so regarding exchanging\, donating or refunding your tickets by emailing boxoffice@emsivictoria.ca or leaving a message at 250 882 5058. \nCanova Winds (USA)\nCanova Winds explores the emergence of one of classical music’s most loved ensembles. Concertgoers may be familiar with well-known wind quintets by Nielsen\, Hindemith and Barber\, but the form originates with Giuseppe Cambini\, Franz Danzi\, Anton Reicha and Beethoven. Each period wind instrument is unique and playful on its own\, but merged they produce a bouquet of sounds seldom heard by modern ears. \n“…allow[s] each note to sound with its own expressive qualities.” San Francisco Examiner \nTickets $30; subscriber\, senior\, member and student discounts available.

SUMMARY:In Memory of Jeanne Lamon
DESCRIPTION:A concert in memory of legendary baroque violinist Jeanne Lamon\, who touched thousands of lives with her exceptional musicianship\, leadership\, warmth\, and generosity in Canada and abroad. The music of Bach was close to Lamon’s heart through her life\, and one of her final musical endeavours was the transcription of Bach’s otherworldly and monumental Chaconne in D minor. This intimate programme –curated by Lamon’s partner in music and life\, Christina Mahler – remembers Lamon through the Chaconne and other transcendent music by Bach\, interspersed with poetry read by the Canadian author\, Kit Pearson. \n  \nEMSI is partnering with Victoria Baroque to present a livestream of this concert. \nThe video will be freely accessible\, but donations in support of these talented musicians are greatly appreciated. \nClick here on Feb 26 to watch the livestream.\nIf you are interested in attending this concert in-person\, please see Victoria Baroque. \n\n\nWatch a short preview video: \n\n \nProgramme by Johann Sebastian Bach\nOrchestral Suite No.2 (transcription)\nSarabande from Solo Cello Suite No.5\nSinfonia from Cantata BWV182\nChaconne from Partita for Solo Violin in D minor\, transcribed by Jeanne Lamon\nBrandenburg Concerto no. 5\, movements 2 & 3 \nPerformers\nChristina Mahler  cello\nYolanda Bruno  violin\nChloe Kim  violin\nChristi Meyers  violin\nMieka Michaux  viola\nSoile Stratkauskas  flute\nChristina Hutten  harpsichord\nNatalie Mackie  violone
