SUMMARY:Imaginario: the Making of an Imaginary Songbook
DESCRIPTION:Armonia Concertada (ARGENTINA)\n María Cristina Kiehr soprano\nAriel Abramovich vihuela\n\n  \nIn the long tradition of songbooks over the ages\, there is a significant gap: songbooks of the Spanish Renaissance for voice and vihuela\, a relative of the guitar. Instrumentalist Ariel Abramovich has filled in that gap with an imagined songbook\, encompassing songs from the few existing published anthologies and other sources. Music by Vásquez\, Josquin\, Morales\, Willaert and more\, are performed by the Argentine duo of María Cristina Kiehr\, soprano and Ariel Abramovich\, vihuela de mano. \nBased in Europe for many years\, María Cristina Kiehr has shared the stage with world-class performers\, including Nikolaus Harnoncourt\, Frans Brüggen\, Philippe Herreweghe and Jordi Savall. Ariel Abramovich\, also now based in Europe\, has established himself as an important figure in rediscovering\, reinterpreting\, recording and teaching the repertoire of Renaissance lute and vihuela\, partnering with musicians such as Anna Maria Friman\, Jacob Herringman\, and José Hernández-Pastor. \n  \nTickets $30 adults / $27 senior. Students (with ID) and youth FREE at the door. \nBuy Tickets \n“expressive ardour…profound sensuality”  Gramophone \n“Kiehr has a ceramic glaze to her delivery: smooth and cool on the surface but warm and pleasingly textured underneath. Her dark vowels create a rich tone that never falters.”  Gramophone \n“An attractive and musically sensible reinterpretation of some delightful music\, brilliantly performed by María Cristina Kiehr and Ariel Abramovich”  Andew Benson-Wilson: Early Music Reviews \n  \nThis concert is generously sponsored by Betty & James Hesser. \nDoors open at 6:45. Pre-concert talk at 7:10. \n\nDownload the concert program \n
