SUMMARY:Garden Concert: Banquo Folk Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Join us in an exquisite garden for a tour of medieval Europe\, from 13th Century Scotland\, to the trouvères of France\, the dance music of Italy and the pilgrim songs of Spain. \nBanquo Folk Ensemble has been performing in Victoria for over 20 years. Vocalists and multi-instrumentalists\, they take early music from the written and oral traditions and develop arrangements that are both creative and faithful to the origins of the music. \nThis program focuses on medieval music across Europe\, from the 12th through to the 15th centuries. \n  \nMembers of Banquo are: \nGwen Jamieson – voice\, hurdy gurdy\, cittern\, gothic harp\nLinda Donn – voice\, treble medieval vielle\, recorders\nAmy Reiswig – percussion\nBill Jamieson – tenor medieval vielle\, shawm\, recorders\, German bagpipes \n  \nThe program includes: \nTant m’abelis – Berenguier de Palou (1150-1185\, France)\nUnder der Linden – Walther von der Vogelweide (1170-1230\, Germany)\nDouce Dame Jolie – Guillaume de Machaut (1300-1377\, France)\nLamento di Tristano/La Rotta – Anonymous (14th Century\, Italy)\nTwo Cantigas de Santa Maria – attributed Alfonso X of Castile (1221-1284\, Spain)\nReis Glorios – Guirat de Borneth (1138-1215\, France)\nEx Te Lux Oritur – Anonymous (13th Century\, Scotland) \nAnd more . . . . \n  \nThe concert is free or by donation (suggested donation: $20)\, with all of the proceeds going to the musicians.
