SUMMARY:Duo Corvi and Friends (VICTORIA/TORONTO)
DESCRIPTION:Bel Ami\, Alamanda \nTickets on sale now.\n \nNote: Out of respect for National Truth and Reconciliation day\, which falls on Saturday\, September 30\, we have moved our concert from our traditional Saturday evening to Friday evening\, September 29. \nReturn of the international award-winning ensemble\, Duo Corvi\, to the EMSI stage\, with Occitan and Galician music from the 13th Century. \nThe trobairitz\, like their male troubadour counterparts\, were noble poet-musicians who wrote and performed within Occitan court life during the late 12th and 13th centuries. In contrast to the trobairitz\, the joglar were musicians who came from outside a noble background. Early Galician joglar forms include the cantiga de amigo (‘friend song’)\, a type of lyric poetry rooted in female-voiced song. Duo Corvi is delighted to present this repertoire in Bel ami\, Alamanda in collaboration with their brilliant friends and guest musicians Ben\, Doug\, and Arian. Enjoy their re-imagining of this very early music. \nPerformers:\nJulie Ryning\, voice\nKatelyn Clark\, orgnetto\nBen Grossman\, vielle à roue (hurdy gurdy)\nDouglas Hensley\, gittern & vihuela\nArian Aminalroaya\, percussion \nProgram \n1.
