Garden Concert: Banquo Folk Ensemble

Sunday, August 7, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join us in an exquisite garden for a tour of medieval Europe, from 13th Century Scotland, to the trouvères of France, the dance music of Italy and the pilgrim songs of Spain.

Banquo Folk Ensemble has been performing in Victoria for over 20 years. Vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, they take early music from the written and oral traditions and develop arrangements that are both creative and faithful to the origins of the music.

This program focuses on medieval music across Europe, from the 12th through to the 15th centuries.

Members of Banquo are:

Gwen Jamieson – voice, hurdy gurdy, cittern, gothic harp
Linda Donn – voice, treble medieval vielle, recorders
Amy Reiswig – percussion
Bill Jamieson – tenor medieval vielle, shawm, recorders, German bagpipes

The program includes:

Tant m’abelis – Berenguier de Palou (1150-1185, France)
Under der Linden – Walther von der Vogelweide (1170-1230, Germany)
Douce Dame Jolie – Guillaume de Machaut (1300-1377, France)

And more . . . .
