    Season 13 of Diablo 4 is the first time in months I’ve actually had to think about which character to log into. The Lord of Hatred expansion shook the meta hard – level cap bump, Torment 12 scaling, Warlock and Spiritborn dropping in at the same time – and the old “one build clears everything” days are gone. I burned through three respecs in the first week trying to figure out which one fit my actual playstyle, not the tier list’s.

    Warlock: Dread Claws vs Hellfire Apocalypse

    Abyss Dread Claw is the no-brainer Warlock starter. It works without Mythic Uniques, scales fast, and the chained shadow procs make trash packs vanish before you’ve even tagged them. I hit Torment 8 on mine without a single God-roll item – that tracks with what most of the early ladder was reporting.

    Hellfire Apocalypse is the opposite vibe. You’re not dashing around – you’re flooding the screen with infernal explosions and demon summons until everything dies. Insane for Infernal Hordes. Not gonna lie, survivability gets dicey above Torment 10, and one bad elite affix combo can delete you before the fire ticks finish.

    Spiritborn, Necromancer, Barbarian – the holdovers still topping charts

    Quill Volley Spiritborn refuses to die. Multiple nerfs later, it’s still one of the smoothest classes for solo dungeon clears thanks to the Bloodied and momentum scaling. If you like moving constantly and shredding elites mid-dash, this is your build.

    Blood Wave Necromancer is what I recommend to friends who hate min-maxing. It hands you AoE, sustain, and boss damage in a single rotation, and it doesn’t need perfect Tempering rolls to function in the Pit. Whirlwind Barbarian is the other safe pick – Season 13’s itemization basically wrote a love letter to sustained AoE, so spinning through Helltide corridors generates Fury faster than you can spend it. Leveling still feels slow until about 60, fair warning.

    What the tier lists won’t tell you

    Most guides skip the failure modes. Dread Claw struggles against bosses with heavy phase invulnerability – your shadow stacks fall off and the ramp restarts. Apocalypse Warlock crumbles to Vampiric + Cold Enchanted elite combos. Bone Spear Necro and Lightning Storm Druid still exist, by the way, but both got pushed down a tier this patch. Your mileage may vary depending on Paragon board choices.

    If you’re shopping for build-enabling uniques or just topping off gold for late-game crafting, picking them up through U4GM saves the grind hours that I’d rather spend actually playing, and it’s been my go-to whenever I’m rolling a fresh seasonal alt. Pick the build that matches how you want to play – not what some streamer tells you is “S-tier” this week.
